New Wood Staff Union strongly urges every staff members to sign this petition addressed to Mr. Sulstarova, the President of the Polling Board, to request that he proceed with the implementation of electronic voting, which he had previously helped the New York Staff Union to implement. We also ask the present-day majority at the Council to approve granting the funds necessary for said implementation and we collectively hold that majority accountable for providing the necessary funds. The current voting procedure, which in “normal” times registered a participation rate of only about 30 %, is no longer appropriate. An alternative voting procedure is thus urgently needed.

Reason

Electronic and anonymous voting, in addition to allowing massive staff participation, is a means of giving real legitimacy to those who will serve the best interests of the staff. Remote working resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic is making the move to electronic voting even more urgent. Therefore, each staff member should be empowered and enabled to vote in February 2021.

Protect your right to vote in the upcoming elections of

Staff Representatives to the UNOG Staff Coordinating Council

Kindly sign this petition to protect your right to vote

for your representatives in the 2021 UNOG Staff Council elections!

Dear Colleagues,

The right to vote is a fundamental one that needs to be safeguarded in these dangerously uncertain times when the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis ensuing therefrom are paving the way for changes and “reforms” that will affect our jobs, our work conditions, and our status as international civil servants.

The representatives you will (or let) elect to the Council in 2021 may well take part in deciding whose contracts will be terminated and whose jobs will be saved.

We, therefore, need to ensure the highest staff representativity in the upcoming elections. This means ensuring that each staff, whether working on-site or remotely, in or outside the duty station, in good health or sick, can vote for his/her representatives. In view of the Covid-19 context, the current voting procedure, which in “normal” times registered a participation rate of only about 30 %, is no longer appropriate. An alternative voting procedure is thus urgently needed.

Consequently, we, at New Wood Staff Union, are urging you to sign this petition addressed to Mr. Sulstarova, the Head of the Polling Board, to proceed with the implementation of electronic voting, which he had previously helped the New York Staff Union to implement. We also ask the present-day majority at the Council to approve granting the funds necessary for said implementation and hold it accountable for providing those funds.

We need to make sure that the 2021 Council will have a legitimate mandate to represent a maximum number of staff members, to voice staff concerns, express their views and work to serve their best interests in full transparency and in permanent consultation with them.  Electronic and anonymous voting, in addition to allowing massive staff participation, is a means of giving real legitimacy to those who will serve the best interests of the staff.

We firmly believe that only the preservation of common interests can preserve the interests of each and every one of us. Therefore, each staff member should be empowered and enabled to vote.

New Wood Staff Union
